The Rose, a Perfect Chicago Layover Hotel

Chicago layover hotel

When you think of a hotel by the airport, what do you think of? Probably a halfway decent chain like Motel 8 or the Ramada. Something that will do for a night, but it’s not exactly comfort or style. When looking for accommodation for my stopover in Chicago in December, I was surprised to find the most adorable boutique hotel near the Chicago O’Hare Airport. Since I knew that I would have jet lag to the max coming from Europe, I decided to treat myself to a night at the perfect Chicago layover hotel.

A few days in Charleston, SC

a few days in Charleston

This post is sponsored. All opinions are my own.

I was blessed with the opportunity to spend several weeks in the US visiting family and friends this past Christmas. Part of my trip home included a few days in Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is one of the most picturesque cities in the United States, and it just so happens that my best friend lives there. Thanks to some cheap airfare that I found, I spent several days exploring the city, and visiting with her and her husband.

Visiting friends during the work week means that you end up with a lot of time to yourself. So what better way to spend time alone than exploring the city? Here are some of the things that I did and saw over a few days in Charleston.

An Insider’s Guide to Málaga

Today we have a guest post written by Dani from Sincerely Spain. It’s about a city close to my old home of Granada and one definitely worth checking out!

As one of the few cities in Andalucía with an affordable, international airport, Málaga has come to be regarded by many as a coastal hotspot. However, I have to be honest with you—the first time I visited I wasn’t impressed. Perhaps calling Granada home jades you a bit because anything less than the breathtaking Alhambra feels a bit lackluster but I was also unlucky enough to visit on one of the only weekends of the year that it rained and was mostly constrained to indoor activities, so that didn’t help either. All that being said, I never intended to return to Málaga but through a series of unexpected events I ended up returning quite regularly.

4 things to do in Atlanta

things to do in Atlanta

I have been back in the United States for about a week now. Initially, the plan was to just come to Cincinnati, and visit friends and family. However this year, my best friend was unable to come up to Ohio for the holidays. So thanks to a cheap flight I found, we met up in Atlanta for the day! Our day was full of all sorts of fun things to do in Atlanta.

The last time I had really visited Atlanta was over fall break of my sophomore year of college. My friend Elizabeth (who I also got to see) is from Atlanta and we spent several days exploring the city. Being 31 now, that was 12 years ago! It’s crazy how the time flies! This time around, we only had one day in the city. We made the most of it by visiting some key spots in the city!

How to Experience Cinque Terre in One Day

Cinque Terre in one day

About a month ago, I found myself exploring the beaches of Italy. I had flown to Milan for the weekend to catch up with an old college friend who also recently moved to Europe. Since the lovely coastal region of Cinque Terre is only a few hours away by train, we decided to spend one of our days exploring the beaches and adorable villages of that region. It was actually very easy to do Cinque Terre in one day!

Where is Cinque Terre?

Before this trip, I had assumed that Cinque Terre was just a town. I had seen Instagram and Pinterest posts with beautiful photos of the villages and beaches full of many colors. I knew it was a place that I would have to visit one day.

What I came to find out on this trip is that Cinque Terre is almost like a small region with a handful of small villages. In theory, you could walk from village to village. That would take you almost a day, so we opted to take the train from town to town. The walkways between some of the villages were also closed due to environmental problems, so it wouldn’t have been possible anyway.

Best Duomo view in Milan, Italy

best duomo view

One of my favorite things about traveling are the spots you find. Some spots provide you with the best view. In Milan, there is one spot that you absolutely must have a drink in. That’s Terraza Aperol. From here, you can get the best Duomo view in the city.

Several weeks ago, I met up with my friend Alex from East Coast Contessa in Milan for a weekend. She recently moved to Prague and I lived in Spain. We searched for where we could find the cheapest airfare, and ended up finding some good deals to Milan. So we figured “why not?”

Pinchos on Calle Laurel, Logroño

pinchos on Calle Laurel

One thing is for sure about life in Spain: you never run out of food to eat. One thing that Spaniards are super proud is their food. This year, I get to experience the food in Spain in a different way. Part of that means eating pinchos on Calle Laurel.

This year is my first year living in La Rioja. Where is La Rioja? Well it’s a nice and small region up North. Up here, the tapas are called pinchos. Much like tapas down South, they are small plates of food that you eat with a drink. However they’re a bit different than the tapas I had in Granada. So I thought I would round up some of my favorite pinchos that I’ve tried in Logroño.
