How to dress up your chucks, part 1

chucks + dress

My dress with chucks? No. You probably think it cannot or should not be done. Even if you want to try it, I’m sure you’ve wondered if it would look tacky. I say this because I myself wondered the same thing. Too often in our society, we place things in boxes. Dress are in the fancy box and chucks are in the kick it box. You cannot mix the two. Or can you?

So I love pairing my red Converse All Star (Chuck Taylors) with dresses. It’s especially perfect in the summer if you’re going to an outdoor event. The sneakers allow you lots of comfort while the dress gives you that nice, cool breeze. Furthermore if you’re going to pair sneakers with a dress, chucks are the best in my opinion.

In this two part series, we will look at two different dress outfits paired with chucks. Today we begin with Amber, in a more bold print of a dress. Wednesday we will conclude with my more classic dress paired with chucks.

The teal shoes provide a nice contrast to the orange dress. I love how well the two pair together. When putting dresses with a pair of chucks, keeping the color in mind is key. You have to make sure that they mesh. Chucks are the perfect sneaker because they’re not too bulky. They fit right in.

  1. A few years ago, I broke a bone in my foot and got to sport a lovely surgical shoe for about 6 weeks. Chucks were the best height match for the other foot. This was the summer leading up to my brother’s wedding, so I attended the bridal shower, etc. wearing a skirt or dress and my mismatched footwear. By the time I was able to wear 2 chucks instead of 1, I was sold on the look!

    1. That’s a wonderful story Sheila Jo! Started with necessity and then you ended up liking it!

  2. I love pairing sneakers with a dress, so I love this look! Plus, as an ice cream addict, I’m in love with these adorable pictures 🙂

    1. Hahaha yeah I tried eating icecream in my photos (which you’ll see tomorrow). Mine kept dripping!

  3. A lovely summer dress and I love the colour of your chucks, your look is cute and playful. I have a few pairs of sneakers including black and red checkered Converse, my newest pair are metallic sneakers which I haven’t worn yet. I might try them with a dress (you’ve inspired me). I only wear mine with jeans and capris. I prefer sandals or ballet flats when wearing dresses in the summer. However, I believe in wearing what makes you happy and you look very happy!

    Happy July!
