One of the things that I love about Spain is that I don’t have to travel far to experience something new. Burgos, Spain was a city that I hadn’t yet been to. After finding a good deal on a hotel room, I decided to make a quick trip to Burgos, Spain.
Where is Burgos?
If you haven’t spent much time in Spain, you might not have heard of this small yet charming city. It’s located in the Northern region of Castilla y Leon. By bus, it’s about an hour and a half from where I live.
Here’s the distance to Burgos from some other cities in Spain:
- Madrid – Burgos: 3 hours by bus or train
- Logroño – Burgos: 1.5 hours by bus or train
- Bilbao – Burgos: 1.5 hours by bus or train
I took a Jimenez bus to Burgos from Logroño. You can also look at Alsa for buses and Renfe for the train. Another transportation alternative is BlaBlacar.
Where to stay on a trip to Burgos
I was quite amazed at the hotel prices for a night in Burgos. I typically stay in hostels when I travel since they’re often so much more affordable than a hotel. However on this quick trip to Burgos, that was not the case. I found this room in Hotel Bulevar for only 34€.
When looking for accommodation, I always recommend hotels.com. I simply search the dates and look at the properties by price from lowest to highest. Just like flights, hotel prices go up and down. I often surprise myself with the deals I find. Also hotels.com lists both hostels and hotels, so if you’re like me and open to both options, it’s a perfect place to compare them!
I always recommend that you sign up for a free account on hotels.com. If you make 10 bookings, the 11th one is free! I’ve already earned one free night (my trip to Lanjarón, Spain) and I’m on my way to another one after my upcoming trip to Malta.
What to see
After dropping my things off in the hotel room and Insagraming my sweet hotel deal like any good blogger, I set off to explore the city. It was chilly, so I zipped up tight and headed out into the tundra. Google Maps told me to head up this one street and then I’d be in the city center.
As I crossed the street, I felt like I was in fairy tale land. To go to the Burgos Cathedral, you literally have to make an entrance across an enchanted bridge.
I crossed the bridge and went through the thing that looks like a castle. On the other side is the amazing cathedral.
The Burgos Cathedral
Spain is a country full of cathedrals. One could easily get jaded after say the 10th cathedral. However not me. Each one I visit still amazes me. The Burgos Cathedral has now been added to my list of favorite Spanish cathedrals.
It was 7€ to tour the inside of the cathedral and it included an audio guide in different languages.
The big climb up
No trip to Burgos is complete without a climb up to the castle. You get the best views of the city from the top.
There are steps that take you up to a mirador (observation deck) where you get get all your photo opps. Right beside it is a lovely cafe called La Ciudadela. I definitely recommend having a drink here. Who doesn’t want to enjoy a coffee with an amazing view of the city?

Notes on visiting Burgos
The weather was windy, rainy and cold. I would definitely be prepared for that. The one thing I didn’t bring that I wished I had brought was a scarf.
Be prepared to do some walking and enjoy yourself!
