A Weekend in Milan

weekend in Milan

A weekend in Milan just might be the thing you need. I know that for my friend Alex and I, it was just the getaway we needed this past November. I live in Spain and she lives in Prague, so it was the perfect meetup destination. Furthermore with cheap flights, it was affordable as well!

How I got there

I always say that travel doesn’t have to be as expensive as we often think. This trip proves that once again. I found ridiculously cheap direct flights on Ryanair. Going there, I flew out of Madrid and it was 14.99€. Heading back, I flew into Zaragoza because it´s closer to where I live. That flight was only 15.99€. So basically, I flew round trip to Milan for around 31€.

A stressful part of travel can be figuring out how to get to and from the airport at odd hours. My flight into Milan landed at 23:20 and it took off at 6:50 a.m. Such is the life when you have a job and time constraints. Luckily, our hostel was within walking distance of the train station. From there, there are tons of buses that go to and from the airport at basically all hours. I was able to go to and from with no problems. I rode with a company called Terravision. It was 9€ round trip.

How to Experience Cinque Terre in One Day

Cinque Terre in one day

About a month ago, I found myself exploring the beaches of Italy. I had flown to Milan for the weekend to catch up with an old college friend who also recently moved to Europe. Since the lovely coastal region of Cinque Terre is only a few hours away by train, we decided to spend one of our days exploring the beaches and adorable villages of that region. It was actually very easy to do Cinque Terre in one day!

Where is Cinque Terre?

Before this trip, I had assumed that Cinque Terre was just a town. I had seen Instagram and Pinterest posts with beautiful photos of the villages and beaches full of many colors. I knew it was a place that I would have to visit one day.

What I came to find out on this trip is that Cinque Terre is almost like a small region with a handful of small villages. In theory, you could walk from village to village. That would take you almost a day, so we opted to take the train from town to town. The walkways between some of the villages were also closed due to environmental problems, so it wouldn’t have been possible anyway.

Best Duomo view in Milan, Italy

best duomo view

One of my favorite things about traveling are the spots you find. Some spots provide you with the best view. In Milan, there is one spot that you absolutely must have a drink in. That’s Terraza Aperol. From here, you can get the best Duomo view in the city.

Several weeks ago, I met up with my friend Alex from East Coast Contessa in Milan for a weekend. She recently moved to Prague and I lived in Spain. We searched for where we could find the cheapest airfare, and ended up finding some good deals to Milan. So we figured “why not?”
