My Favorite Restaurant in Laguardia

If you’re looking for a delicious restaurant in Laguardia, Spain, I have just the place for you. Villa Lucía has the perfect mix of innovative food, entertaining events and an amazing atmosphere. It sits amidst the Rioja vineyards, giving it the perfect backdrop for an evening out.

Laguardia is a charming Basque village located in the North of Spain. It sits just an hour from Vitoria and a little over an hour from Bilbao. Laguardia is a little less than four hours to the North of Madrid. If you want a relaxing weekend away, it’s the place to be.

First impressions

When you arrive at Villa Lucía, you’re not quite sure what it will be like. You actually have to walk down a path and around to the back where you enter the restaurant. Your backdrop as you walk are the beautiful La Rioja vineyards. When it’s paired with a sunset, it’s absolutely stunning.

The Villa Lucía experience

Villa Lucía is situated below the hilltop village of Laguardia. This place is a lot more than a quality restaurant in Laguardia. They have events each month that regularly sell-out. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to experience a few of them this past August.

The first event we attended was a magic dinner. A local magician named Iceman entertained the crowd between courses of absolutely delicious and innovative food. Each dish related to the show as well.

Salmon with classic Spanish jamón on top. This was one of my favorites.
The was a roasted lamb scorched in a witch liquor

I was asked to come up on stage for one of the acts. The magician was asking random people in the audience questions and just randomly asked me for a number between 1-30. Apparently the number 27 was the one he was looking for and he brought me up on stage with him.

The trick was a classic card trick where I had to choose a card and put it back in the deck. However it was quite amazing how he put his own spin on it. We were each given a little roll in a shot glass. We were instructed not to eat it. He called my boyfriend up on stage as well and somehow the card that I chose ended up inside the roll. It was pretty amazing.

Throughout the rest of the evening he performed all sorts of other magical acts. He even did the classic cut a woman in half. There were even swords of fire at one point.

Night 2: Hits throughout the decades

The second event that we attended at this restaurant in Laguardia was a throwback to the hits of yesteryear. A man and woman duo sang songs throughout the decade, both in Spanish and English. Their costumes also changed as they traveled through time.

The food at this event was a bit less formal than the last one. The idea was picoteo, a word in Spanish that more or less means to just snack on things. Now don’t get me wrong, we were still incredibly well-fed throughout the evening. I definitely didn’t go home hungry!

It was fun to sing along as we enjoyed our drinks and food. We were served some meats and cheeses to start with, then we had some different soups to try, then we had some sandwiches and we finished the evening with a delicious desert. Of course since we were in the La Rioja wine region, each table was given a bottle of wine.

Other things at Villa Lucía

Villa Lucía has several other activities such as a wine museum that is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. They have tours throughout the day where you can learn all about wine in the region.

They also have a 4D tour experience, culinary workshops and courses on tasting. There are all sorts of things to experience a Villa Lucía!

Where to stay

If you need a place to stay, you are in-luck! Sercotel Villa de Laguardia is just next door. It’s a nice hotel that has a spa to relax in. I stayed here once with my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it.
