My experience working at an English summer camp in Spain

English summer camp in Spain

I love living in Spain and working as an English assistant. However one tough part of the job is that we don’t get paid for four months in the summer. Our contracts are for eight months out of the year. Those of us who plan to do the program for multiple years need a plan in the summer. One way to earn some extra money is by working at an English summer camp in Spain.

There are many English summer camps throughout Spain and other parts of Europe. Native speakers are gold to them. Parents enroll their kids in camps like these because they obviously want their kids to improve and practice their English. So if these camps can advertise that their teachers are native speakers, they will get more kids to sign up.

I knew I needed to do something to make money this summer. So in March or April, I googled “English summer camps in Spain” and found quite a few. I filled out a few applications and got an interview with one. Perfect, I thought! After the interview, I found out about a week later that the job was mine! I would be working for them the entire month of July.

Be Imaginative: 3 Different Stay Styles Around The World

place to stay

Travelling or backpacking around the world is mighty fun. Sure, it’s hard work as that abundant enthusiasm at the start wears off as you get more tired and have to deal with the tests of paperwork and such. But, for the most part if you know what you’re doing you’ll never be afraid or nervous no matter where you are. The number one concern we all have, apart from our healthy of course, is making sure we have a place to stay when we’re abroad. The days of just making do with whatever you have, even having to sleep on the street if things don’t work out in time of your arrival, are long gone. There’s no excuse to not have a certain kind of room that you feel comfortable to sleep and stay in when you’re on holiday or traveling. Modern technology is inside your pocket, you can reserve and book rooms with a few swipes of your fingers. If you have been at this game for a while, you’ll already know that traditional styles of rooms get snatched up really quickly. Hotels, hostels, and lodges are jam-packed with fellow world-crawlers. So can you be imaginative and get a different kind of room for yourself?

12 things I wish I knew before moving to Spain

moving to Spain

I cannot believe it. It seems like yesterday that I was moving to Spain with just a duffel bag, a carry-on and a backpack. Two years have gone by so quickly. All I know is that my adventure of living overseas and traveling are just beginning.

In just a week and a few days, I’ll be packing my bags once again and moving up to the La Rioja region. I’ll still be living in Spain, just eight hours away from my beloved Granada. My teaching program gives us a two-year limit for working in the Andalucia region. So I figured this could be a great opportunity to see a new region. I’m not going to lie … the move was hard to stomach at first. I spent all year talking about how I would find a way to stay in Granada. However when I received my placement in my first choice region (I renewed just in case) of La Rioja, I thought “Nina, you’re a travel blogger. Go! You’ll have so much new material at your fingertips!”

A Day trip to Maro Beach

Maro Beach

One of my favorite things about living in Granada is how close the beach is! Last week, I took a day trip to Nerja with a friend and had an absolute blast. After a quick photo-op in town, we went to the wonderful and secret Maro Beach.

I’m from the Midwest in the United States. Specifically, I’m from the good ole state of Ohio. Most foreigners have barely heard of it. While it’s a great place to grow up, it’s pretty land-locked. The closest beach was at least a 6-hour drive away. So for me, the beach was always reserved for vacation. I went maybe once a year.

It is crazy and awesome to me that the beach is so close here in Granada. So of course a day trip to Maro Beach was in order.

48 Hours in Salamanca

48 hours in Salamanca

This post contains affiliate links. That simply means that I earn a commission if a purchase happens to be made.

Traveling is funny. My first year in Spain, I wanted to spend my time traveling out of the country. I excitedly checked off places such as Portugal, Scotland and the Czech Republic. However as I now pass my two years in Spain mark, I’m also realizing that I need to see more of the country I live in. So I decided to spend 48 hours in Salamanca several weeks ago.

Where is Salamanca?

Salamanca is a city about an hour or two North of Madrid. Like my Spanish home of Granada, it’s also a big university city. It’s full of old architecture and adorable streets. In some ways, it reminded me of Granada. In other ways (namely how people spoke Spanish), I very much knew that I was no longer in Andalucía. It is said that Castellano (a fancy name for the Spanish language) was born in Salamanca. If you’re just starting out with Spanish, the Spanish spoken in Salamanca is quite clear and easier to understand.

7 ways to make e-commerce a whole lot easier

e-commerce tips

If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ve done a fair amount of online shopping in the past. There are countless opportunities for doing this now, and it’s pretty clear that the high street is now playing second fiddle to the ever-expanding world of e-commerce. I bet you weren’t aware that the average e-commerce weekly sales in the UK alone came in at £1.25 million in January of this year!

It’s pretty clear this is a growing sector, and it seems likely it will grow and enhance even more in the future. In fact, many bloggers these days have set up online stores on their blogs as a way of generating some more revenue. If this sounds right up your street, you’ll want to know a little more about how you can make e-commerce easier for your customers and secure more business as a result.
