How come it always seems like you need to play tourist in your hometown? I know that while I’ve traveled to more than 15 countries, there are still places near my hometown of Cincinnati that I need to explore. One of those places used to be Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park. That is until a little over a month ago.
If you’re new here to the blog, let me explain. I’m a Cincinnati native, born and bred. However a little over two years ago, I made the big move to Spain where I’ve been working as an English teacher and blogger. When I was home over the holidays, I decided to take the opportunity to blog a bit about the United States. I turned my friend visits in Atlanta and Charleston into blog posts. And I also decided to explore places near Cincinnati that I had never really explored. Hence my visit to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park.
That place with the sculptures
Before our visit, I had a vague idea that this quirky park existed. It was always in the back of my mind while I lived in Cincinnati. I’d always think “yeah one day it would be fun to visit that place. You know, see what it’s all about.” However between work and the busy life I led, that visit never came to fruition. So what is this Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park all about?
Well as you might guess, they’re all about sculptures! They have both an indoor museum and lots of outdoor exhibits. In fact, you can rent a golf cart to see it all as everything is a tad spread-out. My friend Amber came along with me and loved driving the cart. I, of course, was happy to ride along and enjoy the sites! However I must say that a golf cart ride in January is a tad chilly!
The idea or mission of the park is to get people appreciating both art and nature. Inside their museum, you can find sculptures from all over the world dating back to 1550 BC! The outdoor sculptures are quite fun as well!
A shoot in the rain
We ended up visiting the park two days in a row. On our second day, it unfortunately started to rain. So we grabbed an umbrella and shot a few in the elements!
That day I decided to wear a new purple sweater dress, my favorite blanket scarf and a pair of boots. It was perfect for stomping around in the wet, muddy grass!
On our first day exploring Butler County, we found this amazing wood sculpture. It was one of my favorite spots in the park.
The Museum
Of course we had to check out the museum. This place had quite the collection. They also had a friendly cat! Outside the courtyard was amazing.
I really loved our visits to the park both days. Riding around in a golf cart was so much fun! I definitely will go back to this park in the future!
I also learned on their website that an annual pass only costs $40 a year! If you live in the area, that’s actually not too bad. I know I would use it to just walk around and enjoy the park when I need solitude.
Love it? Pin it!
Thanks to the Butler County Visitor’s Bureau, our visit and golf cart rental was complimentary. All opinions are my own.
