Today we feature Susana from Australia. Like most of my blogger friends, I know Susana solely from the internet. We are in various Facebook groups and such together. I have always admired her style and confidence, so I thought I would ask to feature her here. Enjoy!
name, age, where you’re from and where you live now:
My name is Susana Lopes-Snarey, I am 44 years old and I was born in Portugal and live in Australia now.
When did you start your blog?
My blog was launched on the 16 January 2016. It’s almost coming to its 2 year anniversary! Can’t believe it I’ve been blogging for almost two years!
How has your blog evolved and changed?
My blog has definitely evolved and changed since its launch. Its had a few ‘facelifts’ as I was still trying to find out who I am as a blogger, learning through all my errors on what I was doing on my blog and just trying to be authentic to myself. Basically finding my own feet as a blogger.
What do you hope people take away from your blog?
I truly hope people enjoy what I present on my blog in regards to how I write. At times it will have some of my kooky fun loving sense of humour, but then I will talk about deep personal things I have experienced in my life, and it is raw, revealing and emotional. I know what I started on my IVF journey years ago I searched for people who I could relate to, and couldn’t find someone who was expressive and raw. Someone I could learn from, and seek solace in, and think ‘wow, they have lived through what I am!’. I hope I can give people healing and inspiration.
What sets your blog apart from others?
I tell it like it is. I’m raw and revealing, and won’t tell you BS. I’m an advocate of authenticity, being yourself and not trying to be like others.
What do you find difficult as a blogger?
Time. I need more time to be able to work on posts. If I could do this 24/7, I would. I have a full time job as a claims assistant for an insurance company and we are so busy at work, and then looking after my furbabies (they are my children and just as much as full on as having children, lol!) and my husband.
What are you most proud of as a blogger?
I am proud of the voice I am able to use and the way I express myself, and that people respond well to that and are grateful for my truth and authenticity, especially when it comes to my fashion style and that I don’t let age (or society) dictate what I should wear.
Where do you see your blog in the future?
I’m hoping I can work from home full time, on my blog and get it to a successful level.
So you were born in Portugal but grew up in Australia. How have both cultures influenced you?
Both cultures are completely different. I have obviously more opportunities in Australia, financially. Whenever I am in Portugal, I somehow take more time to actually walk around the cities and towns, and eat more healthier. I The old traditions of the country, like folk dancing, religion, family traditions – we don’t have that in Australia. But I feel more spiritually happier and relaxed in Portugal.
I absolutely love Portugal. What would you say are the best things about Portugal?
The history, the food, the beautiful landscapes, Lisbon is my favourite city in the world, the fashion and the markets!!!
What are the best things about Australia?
The financial and job opportunities – it makes life easier, the landscapes and my husband.
What are some parts of Portugal people must see?
I know I am biased but people really need to go visit Lisbon! That city is just truly enchanting. Visit Sinatra, which is basically like stepping back in time and going to Lord of the Rings country side!! Beautiful!!
Do you have any advice for traveling to either country?
Always make sure to carry your personal belongings, like phone, cards, money in a ‘bum bag’ (as its known in Australia) / fanny bag. Buy prepaid cards for your mobile phones, and learn some of the language of that country. People appreciate it. Also, listen to your inner voice, if you feel unsure about a place you’ve found yourself at – get out. Always stay in crowded places.
What does your life look like outside of blogging? How do you spend your days?
I try to catch up on house work but spend as much time with my furbabies, yoga, meditation, gardening and going for walks with my boys. Also binge watching my favourite shows!!! I love my TV shows!!
What does being a woman mean to you?
Being a woman is a powerful feeling. Being a woman today means using your voice to empower others to create positive change. Women today realize that helping other women achieve their aspirations is just as important as achieving their own, and from there we can influence and inspire men as well.
How do you show that on your blog?
Pretty much staying true to who I am. Telling my stories but ending them on a positive note to inspire women and men as well.
Anything else you want to add?
Thank you Nina, for asking me to be a part of you amazing series. I am truly grateful and appreciate your support. Also, you inspire me with your authenticity, strength and creativity.
