When you think of a hotel by the airport, what do you think of? Probably a halfway decent chain like Motel 8 or the Ramada. Something that will do for a night, but it’s not exactly comfort or style. When looking for accommodation for my stopover in Chicago in December, I was surprised to find the most adorable boutique hotel near the Chicago O’Hare Airport. Since I knew that I would have jet lag to the max coming from Europe, I decided to treat myself to a night at the perfect Chicago layover hotel.
The arrival
I arrived to the Rose Hotel in an Uber. They do offer a shuttle to and from the airport as well. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the most friendly and welcoming staff. Ah American customer service … how I had missed you! While I had arrived early, they were still able to get me checked in right away!
The hotel lobby had a very warm and inviting feel to it. The weather was your typical cold, gloomy December Chicago winter weather, so it was nice to stay somewhere so inviting and warm.
The room
I stayed in one of their Murphy rooms. These are their smallest rooms. Since I was traveling alone, I didn’t need that much space. It ended up being absolutely perfect, especially for a Chicago layover hotel. It really didn’t even feel like I had a layover!
The bed in these rooms comes out of the wall. I thought it would be a good idea to record a video of me bringing it down from the wall for my Instagram stories. In retrospect, it probably would have been easier to just put my phone down. Oh these times that we live in.
I really liked that this room had a couch space. It was the perfect space to relax or get some work done from my computer with a VPN. Some hotels just have a bed and a desk. In those spaces, you really don’t have a space to lounge around it you want it. This was not the case at this Chicago layover hotel.
The details
I love hotels that pay attention to the small details. The decorations all worked together in the most fun and unique way. It definitely made me feel at home on my Chicago stopover.
Have you ever had a long layover before? Have you ever had a layover in Chicago?
I was given a media rate for my stay at The Rose Hotel. All opinions are my own.
