4 benefits of using a planner

I always seem to have a lot on my mind. Between planning lessons at the schools I work at, planning my private lessons, planning my online classes and blogging, there seems to be a never-ending list of deadlines and things I have to remember to do. There’s just something about writing it all down. There’s nothing quite like it. It’s one of the many benefits of using a planner.

Ever since high school, I’ve always had either a notebook or a planner on me at all times. As a writer, I just never know when the moment will strike and I need to write something down. The Old English Company has quite a few planners that I’ve been digging. I love the simple design of them.

Anyway, on to the benefits of using a planner.

1. Visualizing your week

When you do a lot of different things, it can be hard to plan. If you don’t write it all out, you’ll end up forgetting that you told that friend you’d go to that independent movie showing or you’d grab coffee. Or in my case, you told your friends you could get tapas when you forgot that one of your online English students booked a class with you.

With a planner, you can sit down and write in everything you have to do for the week. You can see when you have gaps in your schedule in case something comes up. It can also help you to plan in time to work on various things.

2. You keep your to-do lists in one place

When I sit down to blog, I have a million things on my mind. I have to e-mail this person, e-mail that person, post x on Facebook, draft an e-mail to my e-mail list and write a post for next Friday, for example. It is so helpful if I just write it all down. I can then decide what is most priority and what can wait until tomorrow or later on in the week.

If I don’t have a planner, I just end up writing it down on a scrap piece of paper. However with a planner, you can just write it all down in your planner. You can then compare that list with your week and see when you have the time to complete everything.

3. A place for your grocery list

I also find that if I don’t write down my grocery list, I spend more time in the grocery store and I end up with things I really didn’t need. In the end, I also end up spending more money. However if I sit down and write it all out, I can really think about what I need for the week.

With a planner, I can just write it down in my planner. Since a planner can easily just fit in my purse or backpack, I can be sure to have my shopping list right there.

4. A place for everything else

Anytime you just need to jot something down, your planner is there. That’s my favorite thing!
