“Some hotels are so nice that you barely have to venture out and explore the city,” Alex of East Coast Contessa said as we were making our way back to our lovely Berlin luxury hotel after exploring the Charlottenburg Palace.
I agreed with her as I envisioned a dip into the indoor pool after an afternoon workout in Club Olympus, their top floor gym and spa.
You see, Alex and I had both already been to Berlin. I suppose that’s the life of living in Europe. She lives only a train ride away in Prague, and I live a short and cheap Ryanair flight away in Spain. Since both of us have already seen a lot of the Berlin sights, we looked at our two nights at a Berlin luxury hotel as the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate. And believe me, between her adjusting to life in a new country and my busy teacher schedule in Spain, we were both more than ready.
Arrival and check-in at a Berlin luxury hotel
I arrived on a Saturday morning on a flight Madrid-Barcelona. One thing I absolutely love about Germany is how well-connected everything is. I simply put Grand Hyatt Berlin into my GoogleMaps and found my way to the hotel. Luckily, the Grand Hyatt Berlin is only a 5-7 minute walk from the Potsdamer Platz train station. From here, you can catch several kinds of trains. Even though I’ve been to Germany a good handful of times, all the different types of trains confuse me. You can catch most of them from this station.
The staff was beyond helpful. They were attentive to every little detail. The check-in and check-out process went very smoothly.
The neighborhood
The Grand Hyatt Berlin is in a newer part of town. There are just more new developments in this area. We had a shopping mall and lots of restaurants within a short walk. You could even see the Blue Man group across the street. Tobias from Arrested Development would love it. However for us, a Blue Man group show wasn’t on our list of things we wanted to do.
Overall, I liked the location of the hotel. We had just about everything we needed in the hotel or within a short walk.
The room
There are 326 rooms and 16 suites in the Grand Hyatt Berlin. They put us up in a double room with a king-sized bed. The room was super comfortable. We had both a bath tub and a shower. On our first night, we were even greeted with a bottle of champagne.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram know that traveling in a dress is sort of my theme. I rarely if never post a picture of myself in anything other than a dress. So when we were taking these photos, I joked that I needed to start another Instagram and call it “A World of Robes.” Instead of living my life in dresses, I’d live my life in robes.
It’s time for breakfast!
We enjoyed a breakfast at the hotel both mornings. The food was absolutely amazing. Since both Alex and I are from the United States, were accustomed to larger breakfasts when we stay at hotels. Things like eggs, bacon, pancakes, french toast, yogurt and fruit. Their breakfast did not disappoint. Furthermore, the service was absolutely amazing. The servers were attentive to our every need.
The selection was amazing. One thing is for sure … you won’t go hungry at this Berlin luxury hotel!
Jamboree Bar
If you’re looking to enjoy a nice cocktail, they have the cutest bar! We absolutely fell in love with how colorful it was, so we of course had to shoot a few photos in it!
The drink menu really amused us. Each cocktail had a fun little story. In this photo, I’m reading each one aloud.
Jamboree Bar is open every day starting at 5 p.m. with it staying open until 1 a.m. during the week and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
Dinner at Vox Restaurant
If there’s one thing that the Grand Hyatt Berlin isn’t lacking, it’s food. With several restaurants on site, you will surely not go hungry at this Berlin luxury hotel.
We had dinner reservations at Vox Restaurant. They have sort of an Asian-fusion menu. When I hear Asian, I always have mixed feelings. On one hand, I love sushi and noodles. On the other hand, I’m very allergic to peanuts. Depending on the country (Thailand and Vietnam, for example), that can be a very big problem. So this just means I have to have a little conversation with the waiter beforehand.
Our waiter was incredibly nice and understanding. There was one peanut dish on the menu and it was a spread that you put on bread. Instead of bringing me the one with peanuts, they brought me the one with lime and yogurt.
Miso soup. A must when eating Japanese food.
Edamame.
This was dessert. It was an assortment of ice cream flavors.
This was salmon on top of cabbage in an aged soy sauce. On top is pumpkin. It was absolutely amazing..
A special plate that the chef made for us.
The wine bottle was huge, so we of course had to take some pictures with it.
Spa time
Up on the top floor of the hotel, there’s a spa, indoor pool and gym called Club Olympus. Guests are free to use all of it. There are additional spa services such as massages that you would have to pay for.
We had such a fun time relaxing and enjoying the views. I instantly felt at peace when entering the space.
And lastly, there was a big doughnut by the elevator. So I of course had to take a picture with it.
Would you like to spend a weekend in luxury at the Grand Hyatt Berlin?
