This Christmas, I spent almost a month in the United States! In addition to spending time with friends and family, I had a few blog collaborations on the calendar. One of those was with Gold Beret Boutique, a local vintage clothing shop in Middletown, Ohio.
Some of have likely never heard of Middletown. Well it’s a small town just north of Cincinnati in Butler County. At the beginning of January, I had sort of a two-day tour through Butler County on my schedule. One of those stops was at the most adorable vintage shop.
The town itself
I’ll be honest with you … before visiting Gold Beret Boutique, I didn’t have much of an opinion of Middletown. I knew that it was a town to the north of Cincinnati, but I had never really spent time there. I was really surprised to find so many neat things.
In addition to an awesome vintage shop, there’s the Pendleton Art Center, a space that offers art exhibitions, workshops and events. You can come see it for yourself the first Friday of every month. All of the studios in the building are open to the public. There’s food, drinks and music as well!
You can read all about Middletown and what to see there here.
The shop
My first impression of the space was that it was laid-out well. It was organized by item, which I found very helpful. I of course always go right for the dresses, so it made it easy to grab all the ones I wanted. I think I had at least five to try on!
The Wine Bar
Next door to the Gold Beret Boutique sits the cutest wine bar! It’s called West Central Wine. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine after work.
We went next door to shoot a few shots over there.
The Penny Lane look
One of my absolute all time favorite movies is Almost Famous. I love the soundtrack, the story, that time period, music and so much more about it. So I was super excited that they had a coat just like the one Penny Lane wears in the movie. Here’s the shop owner Monica with the iconic coat.
Across the street from the Gold Beret sits a music shop called Lester’s Rock N Roll Shop. Since Lester Bangs was also an important character in the film, we decided shooting a few photos over there would be fitting.
The Madeline look
After we went across the street to shoot in the music shop, we returned to the shop so I could change into my next look. Monica had put together this look. I love lots of colors and fit and flare dresses, so it was perfect! Middletown has a super colorful wall, so it was the perfect backdrop for this look.
Have you traveled to Butler County, Ohio? Do you like vintage clothing?
