One of the things that involves significant planning when you’re travelling or going on a trip is what to pack. Most of us are used to our creature comforts and certain items that we just don’t want to be without when we go away, but this can mean bulky luggage which can cause all kinds of problems. Streamlining your baggage and packing smart is the way to go, here’s how (and why!) you should do it!
You Avoid Excess Baggage Fees
If you go over your allocated baggage weight, you will be charged and in some cases this can be a significant amount. Travelling to your destination is not usually a problem, but on the way back when you’ve purchased souvenirs your bag will probably way significantly more. Avoid this issue altogether by packing light, especially if you know you’re going to be making the most of the shopping opportunities at your destination. You could save room in your suitcase, just be sure to weigh your bag before setting off again if you think it could be close to your limit. All of the savings you’ve made at incredible outlets and markets could easily be outweighed by expensive luggage fees.
You Can Take a Carry on And Skip Baggage Handling
Dealing with baggage handling can be annoying for even the most patient amongst us. But if you have a layover, it will mean going through it an additional time. Thanks to hotels like TownePlace Suites Mississauga-Airport, a layover can be a welcome break from travel rather than an inconvenience. However having to wait around for your case can be a pain, so how about skipping it altogether? If you pack light you can simply use a small cabin-size suitcase and live out of that instead. No risk of your luggage going missing or having to wait an age while it comes out. You can get off the plane and you’re ready to go.
You Don’t Need as Much as You Think
It’s so easy to overpack when you go travelling. But let’s face it, you don’t need multiple changes of clothes every day when you’re at home so why would you while you’re away? Create a capsule wardrobe which will give you lots of different outfits without needing to pack many clothing items. It allows you to dress a few staple items up or down so you have something for every scenario. The same applies to footwear and swimwear. A couple of key pieces should get you through, no need to pack a different style and colour for every day. When you pack your toiletries, use miniature sized bottles, samples and sachets wherever you can to free up space. Most of us have tonnes of these things floating around in our drawers at home, why not make the most of them now?
Are you guilty of over packing when it comes to travelling? Do you have any tips on keeping your luggage as light as possible?
