Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park, a Quirky Spot

Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park

How come it always seems like you need to play tourist in your hometown? I know that while I’ve traveled to more than 15 countries, there are still places near my hometown of Cincinnati that I need to explore. One of those places used to be Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park. That is until a little over a month ago.

If you’re new here to the blog, let me explain. I’m a Cincinnati native, born and bred. However a little over two years ago, I made the big move to Spain where I’ve been working as an English teacher and blogger. When I was home over the holidays, I decided to take the opportunity to blog a bit about the United States. I turned my friend visits in Atlanta and Charleston into blog posts. And I also decided to explore places near Cincinnati that I had never really explored. Hence my visit to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park.

4 Ways to Earn and Save Money Creatively

save creatively

My biggest goal this new year is to get my money in order. From the outside looking in, it looks like I travel often and enjoy life. Of course I enjoy life. However that’s not to say that it comes with a price. This new year, I plan to earn money creatively.

My goal is to both pay off debt and get money saved for travels this summer. I have set goals for exactly how much I will pay each month to lower my debt and how much I want to save.

One thing I know and love about myself (yeah self-love) is how resourceful I am! When it comes to lots of things in life, I always find an alternative way. This is just how I’ve always been. The other week I found myself thinking “leave it to me to get myself out of debt with a bunch of random jobs, projects, etc.” However that is exactly how it will play out and I’m excited.

Here are some ways I’ve found to earn and save creatively.

A shoot at Miller St. Boutique

I absolutely love finding hidden gems. That is exactly what I felt like I had discovered when I went to Miller St. Boutique several weeks ago. My friend Amber and I were exploring Butler County, Ohio, and a visit to this adorable boutique was a part of the itinerary.

The reason I say that Miller St. Boutique is a hidden gem is because it sits in a simple strip mall. I don’t know about you, but I typically think of chain restaurants and insurance agencies when the word strip mall comes to mind. I’m typically never expecting to find locally-owned boutiques full of adorable dresses, accessories and home decor. However that is exactly what we found in Miller St. Boutique.

Exploring a Spanish Winery

exploring a Spanish winery

One of the best kept secrets of the North of Spain is the wine. Sure, the North doesn’t have the beautiful beaches and flamenco dancing of the South. However the quality wine more than makes up for it. Seeing as I now live in the North of Spain, exploring a Spanish winery was added to the bucket list for this year.

I’ll be honest and tell you that exploring a Spanish winery also wasn’t the first thing I did upon moving to La Rioja. When you live in a place, these sorts of things get pushed off for next weekend or the weekend after. However in December, we had a puente (Spanish word for when a bunch of holidays are squished together. Also the Spanish word for bridge) and my friend Sharifa used it as an opportunity to visit me. She’s teaching in Madrid this year and I think she wanted an escape from the big city. So my friend visiting was basically my excuse to finally book a visit to explore a Spanish winery.

A Pop Into Sorella Boutique

Sorella Boutique

Several weeks ago, I got to play dress up all day. As a fashion blogger, it’s basically my favorite thing. I was exploring the Liberty Center in Butler County, Ohio (USA) and the ladies at Talbots recommended we make one last stop before heading home. While I was a bit tired from our busy day, my friend Amber and I decided to pop in to see what the shop was all about.

The majority of the shops at the Liberty Center are the typical shops you find at shopping centers. There you can find shops such as Kendra Scott, Forever 21 and H&M. However this is exactly what makes a boutique like Sorella Boutique different. Unlike it’s neighbors, it’s locally-owned.

A Style Session at Talbots

When I was in the United States over the holidays, I worked with a stylist. In fact, I had some looks picked out for me. Now I know you’re probably thinking “but Nina, you cannot afford that. You work as a teacher.” Well if you work with Talbots, you don’t need to be rich to enjoy the benefits of a personal styling session.

In early January, my friend Amber and I did a little collaboration with the Butler County Visitor’s Bureau. Part of that visit included shopping at the Liberty Center. Our first stop was Talbots, of course. The ladies working there were so nice and told me about a personal styling service they offer. Basically if you’d like, you can make an appointment with them. They pick out looks based on your style and you try them on. It’s perfect for people who either hate shopping, don’t know what wear or simply want to change their style. It’s completely free as well (although I’m sure the ladies are hoping you’ll take at least a few pieces home with you).

Creating Looks at Gold Beret Boutique

Gold Beret Boutique

This Christmas, I spent almost a month in the United States! In addition to spending time with friends and family, I had a few blog collaborations on the calendar. One of those was with Gold Beret Boutique, a local vintage clothing shop in Middletown, Ohio.

Some of have likely never heard of Middletown. Well it’s a small town just north of Cincinnati in Butler County. At the beginning of January, I had sort of a two-day tour through Butler County on my schedule. One of those stops was at the most adorable vintage shop.

The Rose, a Perfect Chicago Layover Hotel

Chicago layover hotel

When you think of a hotel by the airport, what do you think of? Probably a halfway decent chain like Motel 8 or the Ramada. Something that will do for a night, but it’s not exactly comfort or style. When looking for accommodation for my stopover in Chicago in December, I was surprised to find the most adorable boutique hotel near the Chicago O’Hare Airport. Since I knew that I would have jet lag to the max coming from Europe, I decided to treat myself to a night at the perfect Chicago layover hotel.

A few days in Charleston, SC

a few days in Charleston

This post is sponsored. All opinions are my own.

I was blessed with the opportunity to spend several weeks in the US visiting family and friends this past Christmas. Part of my trip home included a few days in Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is one of the most picturesque cities in the United States, and it just so happens that my best friend lives there. Thanks to some cheap airfare that I found, I spent several days exploring the city, and visiting with her and her husband.

Visiting friends during the work week means that you end up with a lot of time to yourself. So what better way to spend time alone than exploring the city? Here are some of the things that I did and saw over a few days in Charleston.
