Last weekend, I took a quick trip to Madrid.
This summer is looking a tad different for me. Last summer, I was in the Czech Republic and exploring countries such as Hugary and Germany. This summer, I’ve decided to stay in Spain and work a little bit. I’m working for an English summer camp in the Pyrenees Mountains and Palma de Mallorca. I had to meet my coworkers in Madrid last Saturday, so I decided to make an evening of it.
Arrival in Madrid
Traveling from Granada to Madrid is pretty easy to do. As I’ve mentioned before on the blog, I prefer to travel with Blablacar. I found a Blablacar that left at 10 a.m., which put me into Madrid in the mid-afternoon. I took the Metro to my hostel, which was very easy to navigate.
The only tip I have for Madrid is walking. In a city that large, you will walk a lot and also take a lot of public transportation. Luckily the Metro was super easy to navigate.
Hostel One Madrid
When traveling, I typically stay in hostels. As a teacher, I don’t make tons of money. Hostels are great because they’re typically pretty affordable. Furthermore, I love the social environments that they create. This particular hostel had a free hostel dinner and a pub crawl. I met a lot of cool people that way. So I stayed the night in Hostel One Madrid.
The lovely kitchen area where they served churros and chocolate (a classic Spanish breakfast dish).
I was in a four-person dorm room. When staying in hostels, I always choose rooms with the least amount of people. A room with four people as opposed to 12 will have a lot less noise. The only downside was that there were only top bunks available when I arrived. However that is how things go when you stay in hostels.
The showers weren’t too bad either. I always like showers that have enough space for me to put my clothing and are hot.
The Real Palace of Madrid
I only had a night in Madrid, so I decided to explore the palace. I hadn’t had to the chance to tour it on my trip to Madrid over a year ago. They don’t allow photos in most of the palace. Here are some of the photos I snapped while there.
On the walk back to my hostel, I stopped by the Temple of Deboid.
It apparently looks amazing at sunset. I, however, had a hostel dinner to get back to.
Overall, it was a great visit to Madrid. Madrid is one of those cities where I’m sure I’d always end up discovering something new with each visit.
I was provided a complimentary stay at Hostel One in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.
